Chapman University
Though I do not belong to the committee that planned Chapman’s response to the President’s Initiative, I’ve remained very active through my role as president of Chapman’s Interfaith Council. Through this position I encouraged various religious/faith groups to participate in the many community service projects that were made available by the committee. In November the Council and I performed our own service project by running a donation drive for a local food bank. I have also helped conduct various Interfaith dialogue and education based events across campus during the past school year.
The Chapman community has taken up the President’s Challenge as an opportunity for creative collaboration and partnership to create sustainable change. Along with over 20 campus and community partners, Chapman’s goal is to not only increase our commitment to service and interfaith understanding, but to make it a lasting part of the Chapman mission. Issues relating to water and education were selected as our service and interfaith engagement priorities, respectively; these two themes have served as the keystone for service and programming initiatives throughout the 2011-2012 academic year.
